JOB TITLE: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
LOCATION: Rhode Island

SkillsRI’s Dispatching Program is recruiting Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). SkillsRI and the DLT have negotiated with congregate care providers to ensure the following “surge wage” per diem pay: CNA (licensed to practice in RI): $25/hr.
Please note, all positions are per diem, wages will be paid by the employer of work placement and hours will vary based on job type and location. Be advised this temporary program was created to respond to the COVID crisis.
Once approved to enter the program, you will be able to create your own schedule by selecting available per diem shifts from a scheduling app at times and locations that are ideal and convenient for you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and within a congregate care setting and department policies and procedures, assists in caring for patients and/or families.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs.
- Lift or assist others to lift patients to move them on or off beds, examination tables, surgical tables, or stretchers; Turn or reposition bedridden patients.
- Provide physical support to assist patients to perform daily living activities, such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising.
- Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate diet; Feed patients or assist patients to eat or drink
- Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff; Collect specimens, such as urine, feces, or sputum; Supply, collect, or empty bedpans.
- Record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration rate, as directed by medical or nursing staff.
- Gather information from caregivers, nurses, or physicians about patient condition, treatment plans, or appropriate activities.
- Observe or examine patients to detect symptoms that may require medical attention, such as bruises, open wounds, or blood in urine.
- Document or otherwise report observations of patient behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
- Apply clean dressings, slings, stockings, or support bandages, under direction of nurse or physician.
- Remind patients to take medications or nutritional supplements.
- Undress, wash, and dress patients who are unable to do so for themselves.
- Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance or social and emotional support.
- Clean and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, examination rooms, or other patient areas; Restock patient rooms with personal hygiene items, such as towels, washcloths, soap, or toilet paper.
Successful candidates will have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current Rhode Island registration as a Nursing Assistant.
- Current CPR certification.
- One – three months of prior work experience in a long term care setting
- Must be able to sit 7-8 hours per day, stand, squat/kneel 1-3 hours per day, walk 3-7 hours per day, lift over 50 lbs with good mechanics, twist/bend infrequently.
- Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform work that deviates from neutral position and be able to perform fine motor skills.
- Must be able to have accurate near and far vision of 20/40, moderate depth perception and discriminate among red, green and white.
- Performs independently within congregate care/department policies and procedures. Works within the scope of RI License for Nurse Assistants. Refers specific, complex problems to nurse leader where clarification of hospital/department policies and procedures maybe required.
- Willingness to work with COVID positive patients while wearing proper PPE and following safety protocols
