Position Description

East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) seeks two full-time/full-year Associate Teachers to join our team and provide a nurturing and safe classroom environment for children in our Head Start program at 8 John Chafee Boulevard in Newport, RI. The Head Start Associate Teachers assist the Lead Teachers in carrying out developmentally appropriate activities for children. The Associate teacher's role is to promote the children's health, nutrition, and education, attend to their safety and welfare, observe and record children's behaviors, and identify each child’s strengths and areas to grow. The Associate Teachers will follow the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards, RI Child Care Center Regulations for Licensing, and RI Department of Education Early Learning Standards. Our Head Start program utilizes the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) approach and the Creative Curriculum to ensure that all children have a high-quality, nurturing, and safe learning experience. The successful candidates must have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with parents, children, staff, community representatives, and volunteers and have one of the following A minimum of a high school diploma or GED certificate with a minimum of 6 credit hours in Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework and a supervised teaching experience in an ECE setting and must be enrolled in a Child Development Associate (CDA) program to be completed within one year of hire OR; Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in Early Childhood and a supervised teacher experience in ECE setting OR; Bachelor or Associate in Early Childhood Education or a related field* and a supervised teaching experience in an ECE setting. *The Rhode Island quality rating and improvement system, Bright Stars defines related degrees for early childhood education teachers as Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and Education. Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Physical Education & Recreation, and Child & Family Studies. Head Start teacher assistant/float candidates who hold a related degree will required to provide detailed college transcripts to validate appropriate ECE-related courses that include but are not limited to child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health and physical development, mathematics, science, children’s literature, approaches to learning, social and emotional development, language development and communication, creativity, professionalism, differentiated teaching and learning. The Assistant Director of Academic Success/Writing Lab is responsible for providing leadership in the area of academic excellence and success and works with a team of professionals to offer students an array of learning and tutoring services and support. Learning and academic support initiatives include but is not limited to tutoring services and programs, workshops to support developing habits of the mind, summer academic readiness initiatives, and more. The incumbent has significant leadership responsibilities for developing retention initiatives and positively impacting student persistence. As a member of the leadership team for the Academic Success Center and reporting to the Director of Academic Success, the Assistant Director of Academic Success/Writing Lab assists with the coordination of tutorial services and writing support for the Writing Lab. The incumbent will work collaboratively and creatively with the Director of the Writing Program and specified faculty liaisons to coordinate strategic initiatives and services that assists the Rhode Island College’s Writing Program, including but not limited to embedded tutoring and workshops. The Assistant Director of Academic Success/Writing Lab works in conjunction with the Director of Academic Success to ensure academic support services are grounded in relevant student development theory and helps to provide students with high quality support services. Demonstrated experience with working in diverse students and learners. • At least 3-5 years of teaching writing at the secondary or higher-levels. Evergreen, our assisted living program for adults who have experienced challenges living independently in the community, but do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home needs a CNA/Med Tech. The residence is designed to provide a home-like atmosphere where people can live with as much independence as possible. Our home provides specialized support for individuals who have co-occurring behavioral and primary healthcare needs. In this role, you will provide medication-related coordination with local pharmacies, hospitals, and health clinics as needed, assist program nurses with medication packing activities, and perform all ancillary nursing assistant functions as directed. You will work to protect the safety, health, and welfare of residents in the program while promoting their independence, dignity, and individuality. A Must communicate effectively to assist clients in performing Activities of Daily Living, work simultaneously on several tasks at one time, and be able to communicate with outside providers. Education and Licensing Requirements: A Current certification to practice as a medication aide in Rhode Island and a current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant are required. Two years' experience as a Certified Medication Aide and Nursing Assistant preferred. Complete a BCI with no disqualifying information.
