Job Summary:
The Health Education Coordinator manages health education programs that help older adults and their communities maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles. The Coordinator develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations interested in public health to increase access and participation in evidence-based programs. The Coordinator will partner with the Own Your Health (OYH) Collaborative to recruit and mentor facilitators to implement evidence-based self-management workshops. The Coordinator will organize facilitators' training, and the scheduling of workshops, ensuring workshops are offered throughout the state. The Coordinator, with support from Manager and Director, is responsible for meeting all reporting requirements in compliance with contractors, private, state and federal funders.
Essential Functions:
Develop effective relationships with current or potential community partners who have a mutual interest of empowering consumers to take charge of their health and wellness and promote evidence-based programming.
Conduct outreach, through a variety of methods, to consumers and professionals. Visit establishments to promote programs and schedule workshops.
Publicize and promote programs through sources, such as newsletters, bulletins, or mailings.
Recruit, train, and mentor a workforce of facilitators for evidence-based workshops.
Monitor and maintain databases, mailing lists, telephone networks, and other information to facilitate the functioning of health education programs. Prepare program reports as required.
Document activities and record information, such as the number of outreach and, presentations conducted, workshops scheduled, and participants registered.
Confidentially manage the collection of participant data from workshops, including attendance logs, and pre and post participant surveys. Assist the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) with data entry of participant data as needed.
Responsible for the compilation and coordination of surveys sent to participants.
Schedule workshops and prepare workshop materials for distribution. Facilitate workshops as needed to meet metrics outlined by funders.
Represent the consumer voice at RIDOH Department meetings, committees, and other local and state meetings.
Coordinate and facilitate Own Your Health monthly meetings and events
Accept other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, and promoting, health and wellness services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, program promotion, and sales techniques
High level of interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills to interact on a professional level with consumers and professionals
Ability to convey complex information in a clear and understandable manner
Organizational skills to include managing multiple activities; ability to prioritize projects of varying complexities, ability to meet required timelines
Ability to effectively work independently and in collaboration with multiple staff and programs
Fluency (speaking, reading, and writing) in English and Spanish desired
Education and Experience:
Personal experience as an older adult or caring for an older adult
High school diploma/GED required; Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Health, Education, or related field strongly preferred
Willingness to complete evidence-based program facilitator trainings as required
Community Health Workers certification preferred; non-certified incumbents are expected to earn certification within 18 months of hire date
Demonstrated knowledge of RIPIN's programs, mission, and vision
Experience working with and outreaching to diverse populations
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to talk or hear
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
Regularly required to climb stairs, reach, stretch, stand and bend
Required to have the ability to lift and/or moves up to 25 pounds
Required to remain at their station for prolonged periods of time
Working Conditions/ Work Environment:
Primary work location is split between a climate-controlled indoor office environment and in a variety of community locations.
Flexibility for travel related to job requirements
Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Provide own reliable transportation with proof of valid driver's license and RI minimum requirements of auto insurance
Will be required to follow sites COVID testing and vaccination requirements
